What is the West Michigan Veterans Coalition?

The WMVC is a collaboration of military-friendly organizations and employers within Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Lake, Kent, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, and Ottawa counties that provide support, information, and resource to those that have served or are serving in the Armed Forces and their Families in the areas of education, employment, healthcare and quality of life.

Why should I become a member of the West Michigan Veterans Coalition?

The West Michigan Veterans Coalition is a collaboration of organizations and employers that you can connect with to provide resources for your clients that you may not be able to provide otherwise. This alleviates the frustration that some may experience when trying to find assistance or employment.

I am an employer who is interested in hiring Military-connected individuals and their Family members, how do I become a member?

Go to the Coalition tab and then click Join the Coalition button. You will be contacted within 24-48 hours regarding your membership request.

I work for an organization that assists the Military-Connected and/or their Families. How do I join?

Go to the Coalition tab and then click Join the Coalition button. You will be contacted within 24-48 hours regarding your membership request.

What resources does the West Michigan Veterans Coalition assist with?

The WMVC assists with connecting you to resources in the areas of education, employment, healthcare, and quality of life.

I work for an organization that is assisting a client, but they have needs that we are unable to assist with. How do I access your network of resources?

If you are a current member of the West Michigan Veterans Coalition go to the Coalition tab and click on PODIO login. Once logged into PODIO, click on Requests then Add Request in the upper right corner.

If you are not a member of the West Michigan Veterans Coalition click on the Contact tab in the upper right corner of our Home page to fill out our contact form.

What scholarships does the West Michigan Veterans Coalition offer?

• Armed Forces Dependent Scholarship – Available to the Spouse and Children of Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, Retired or honorable discharged Service Members who are currently attending or accepted at a College, University, or Trade School.
• Armed Forces Scholarship – Available to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, Retired or honorable discharged Service Members who are currently attending or accepted at a College, University, or Trade School.

How do I apply for one of the scholarships?

In the About tab, click on Scholarships. Click on the scholarship you are interested in. You can download the application or apply online.

What documents do I need to apply for one of the Scholarships?

• Completed Application
• Copy of Marriage License or Dependents Birth Certificate
• Documentation of Military Service for Service Member (DD214, NGB 22, Letter of Discharge, or current orders)
• Official copy of his/her most current transcript with cumulative grade point average or credit hours toward certification of skilled trade
• Two (2) letters of recommendation (excluding family members), must be signed and dated (within application period) by the writers
• Provide a 750-1500-word essay telling the scholarship committee about yourself, your academic goals, future goals and how this scholarship will assist you in meeting those goals.
For the Armed Forces Scholarship, you will need:
• Completed copy of the application
• SANITIZED documentation of Military Service (DD214, NGB 22, Letter of Discharge, or current orders)
• OFFICIAL COPY of most current transcript with cumulative grade point average or credit hours toward certification of skilled trade
• Two (2) letters of recommendation (excluding family members) must be signed and dated (within application period) by the writers
• Provide a 750-1500-word essay telling the scholarship committee how the military impacted your life, future goals and how this scholarship will assist you in meeting those goals.

You may provide financial support to the West Michigan Veterans Coalition by:

• Online: To make a donation online go to the home page and click the Donate button or click donate in the upper right-hand corner.
